Stapled Transanal Rectal Resection (STARR)

Stapled Transanal Rectal Resection (STARR) is a minimally invasive surgical procedure used to treat a form of chronic constipation called Obstructed Defecation Syndrome (ODS). The procedure is performed through the anus to remove excess tissue in the rectum. The procedure requires no external incisions and leaves no visible scars.

Symptoms of ODS include:
  • Feeling of your stool being stuck
  • Usage of your fingers to assist in defecation
  • Need to return to the toilet immediately after defecating
  • Need for excessive straining
Most people go home in one day after the STARR procedure.
